Oiconomy Pricing holds workshop at Sustainability University Foundation

On 12th September, Oiconomy Pricing was invited to hold a workshop at the annual meeting of the Sustainability University, chaired by Carola Wijdoogen at the Number 5 Foundation in The Hague. The gathering started with a warm welcome by Laurentien van Oranje, followed by a reflection on the “The State of the Sustainability Profession” by Prof. dr. André Nijhof.

Thereafter, Walter J.V. Vermeulen from Oiconomy Pricing and Marianne van Keep, Chief Sustainability Officer at Verstegen Spices & Sauces gave a workshop to sustainability professionals. Marianne underlined the importance of the findings they obtained during the Oiconomy Pricing pilot and Walter presented the basic principles of the method. After that, the participants were invited to discuss some dilemmas that occur with full cost accounting.

In particular, the issue of potentially rising the market price of products for consumers was seen as a dilemma with implications for social equality. The participants also discussed the sheer number of different reporting and assessment systems as a potential barrier for the implementation of Oiconomy Pricing. Finally, there was also a consensus on the importance of involving the government for disseminating Oiconomy Pricing. After all, they can require companies to report their impacts and actual prices, while providing financial support to do so.
